WoW forum, or Taliban-controlled Afghanistan

The World of Warcraft forum is a garbage dump. Forum moderators have absolute power and are not accountable to anyone, so they can do anything they want to anyone they want with total impunity. Their alleged boss, Micah Whipple, Editor of Community Development, is a lowbrow dunce who is not capable of understanding the simplest things, and rarely bothers even to read emails sent to him. (I am assuming Micah Whipple really exists and it isn't just some forum moderator in disguise.) A forum should not be a totalitarian environment like Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, but the WoW forum is.

If anyone has reason to agree, please post here so we can organize. Enough of us offering to deprive Blizzard of our $15 a month might get them to sit up and take notice.

Life is good!

That said it seems like a relevant time to bring this up: is the a Godwin's law equivalent for the Taliban?

Re: WoW forum, or Taliban-controlled Afghanistan

The organization required to pull off a big enough hit to subscription numbers that blizzard would actually notice is beyond everyone who asks others to drop their subscription in protest.

You need to convince millions of people which is no small feat as not many players actually actively participate in forum discussions on WoW fan sites/official forums or on your specific continent. For example this forum is predominantly occupied by people living in the UK/Europe so we may not have the same moderation issue as over in the US and asking us to drop our subscription over a problem which doesn't affect us isn't going to result in a lot of support.

Re: WoW forum, or Taliban-controlled Afghanistan

ExcessNeo, I am prepared to work on that kind of organization. I've got all day.

Could people let me know if there are any safe fora for North American gamers where I can post a similar call to action? (By safe I mean those that don't plant keyloggers and aren't virus-infested.)

Re: WoW forum, or Taliban-controlled Afghanistan

Why bother?
You wont pull it off, although there may be others that agree with you, there are far more out there that just want to play the game and not have anything to do with the BS politics behind the game.

Use a different forum instead and get over it?

Re: WoW forum, or Taliban-controlled Afghanistan

Those forums will have posting guidelines like many others, follow those guidelines and things will be fine. Breach them then the moderators will step in. In all honesty your "campaign" will gain zero traction and be quite futile to pursue a campaign to boycott your subscription fees in order to make blizzard take notice.

how many will you get? 10? 50? 100? it wouldnt even make a dent in their subscriber numbers. Most MMO's can comfortably operate in profit with a subscriber base of around 100,000, warcraft has over 11 million subscribers, it's nearest competitor aion is at around 4 million so you can see it has quite a comfortable user and profit margin over the nearest competition.

So you're best of just not using the wow forums and getting on with your game or take the decision to not play, either way, it's easier than trying to start a fight you know you will not win.

That's f*cking hillarious.

But in all seriousness, it will take massive amount of preparation and co-operation to pull it off. I don't think most people will be too bothered about it.

Is there no free-rights organisation you can appeal to?

Well TBH I pay my 8.99 to, ya know, play the damn game.
Not pay 8.99 to access the forums.
So it can remain under "taliban control" for all I care, I rarely use it unless I actually have actual problems to complain about and cannot do so in game.

(The snark in this post ain't aimed at you GingerKid, its at the OP, just made sense to quote the whole not being bothered part)

I suppose it's what you consider your money to go towards, the game experience itself or a whole package, inc. the forums.
