Re: Most ridiculous / insane achievements?

Whilst I hate silly achievements that ether require a lot of grinding or 70000 replays of the game, I don't like the idea of easy achievements being put in the game just to sell more copy's, what's the point of having achievements if there very easy to get?

^^Agreed.

The grinding or replay ones are fair enough if they're possible to get through normal gameplay (for example, Saints Row has an achievement for 20 hours of playing and for travelling 500 miles by car... I managed to get both of these by playing missions and activities as normal) but some are plain dumb. I'm not even 10% through that Bejeweled 280 level one yet and the levels are already starting to take the best part of 15 minutes each!

Re: Most ridiculous / insane achievements?

madden 07's import a save draft cheevo does my head in, i'd have to rebuy madden 07, NCCA 07, an american 360 since NCCA 07 wasnt ever release to the europe market and THEN i could finish that game....so not worth the effort

worst cheevo i've gotten is probably crackdowns 800/800 orbs...gets dull very quickly

any achievements that involve purchasing additional DLC or playing online (something that is not free)

i mean wow has some dumbass acheievements but very few that come from spending additional actual money

Re: Most ridiculous / insane achievements?

My main issue with playing online is this - if you're somebody like me who rarely has spare cash, by the time you've got a game there's NOBODY online to play with. Saints Row, for example. I haven't been able to play the first game online because not enough people play it any more. Worms, too - I only have the 4-player online game to play, but I haven't seen more than two people online to play with. It's most exasperating.

/EDIT

To update my Bejeweled list, I'm a quarter of the way to getting the Hyper Gem and Powercube achievements, and about 50 levels in to the 280 level one... they're getting stupid now, one took me over 45 minutes to clear.

Gimme a shout and I'll fill a spot, meaning you only need another 2 players to get that achievement. Was the last one on that game for me too.

Don't you need to pay for all achivements?

I don't mind achivements for DLC as long as it is decent. I.e the Fallout 3 DLC was a fair chunk of extra game, and was all the better for it.

Re: Most ridiculous / insane achievements?

Oh, extra achievements for DLC is great to me... it takes it over the original 1000G anyway. It's the same as buying an arcade game. I'm all for that.

See,I treat achievements as extra challenges in a game. My fave are ones that mean beating a certain level or score (the Geometry Wars achievements are great, or the TTFAF achievements) - ones which you get for beating certain parts of a game are good too, but not if that's going to be all of the achievements. They shouldn't be obtainable through a single playthrough - Bioshock has it pretty much nailed, I reckon, where you need to play through at least twice.

It's these extra challenges that finally persuaded me to buy an Xbox

Re: Most ridiculous / insane achievements?

Street Fighter IV has a few incredibly hard ones.

Legendary Champion - Defeat Gouken and clear Arcade Mode in Hardest difficulty.

Ok, Arcade mode is broken down as follows: 6 random opponents from all those unlocked (Cammy in particular when you get her is one SOAB). Then, a character specific "rival" (basically a set fight, some are actually rivals too). Then, Seth, the most spamming cheating barsteward I have EVER encountered in a fighter (he repeatedly raped me on Medium mode the first time, and many times after).

In all these you must get (depending on whether best of 1-3-5-7 rounds):

PERFECT 1-2-3-4
FIRST STRIKE 5-10-15-20
UC/SC FINISH 3-5-7-9

So for 1-round matches, you need one perfect, 5 first strikes, 3 UC/SC finishes... in 8 rounds total. And then you have ONE shot at defeating Gouken I believe.

And all on an incredibly hard difficulty. Good luck

Challenges - getting all golds on Survival and Time Trial needs some EPIC skills, something you can't pick up with a few days, couple weeks even, of practice.
Also, getting every last combo out for the trials, considering you seem to need 1/10000s of a second timing on some of them..

And then of course, all online achievements, which are always hard as hell because you get matched against the no-lifer who can perfect every match on Hardest with normal moves. With his eyes closed. With no controller.

But OTOH, Dan is the funniest character I have seen in a while in a fighter, perhaps Gon in Tekken 3 was a bit of a lol, but not this much.

Re: Most ridiculous / insane achievements?

Great post, IOU rep (not sure why I can't add rep)

GH3 has a couple more that are pisstakes, namely the "never gonna spend it all" achievement. This actually needs you to create at least 3 bands, assuming you five star every song on every difficulty. The 100,000,000 points one and 250,000 notes hit are also ridiculous - I've played this game more than most people I know and have not obtained those achievements yet.

GH3 is actually seriously dickish when it comes to achievements...

Re: Most ridiculous / insane achievements?

Oh yeah, I missed out the fact you CANNOT lose a SINGLE round. + 10 hardness. Also, must be a character you have already finished the game with.

On GH3, the 100mil points and 250k notes aren't actually that bad. Just play in career mode instead of quickplay, when you want to play just for fun (on your own, tends to be harder when you have a 2-man band).

Obviously you don't play enough

When you can masturbate with your other hand too (the fret hand hand), THEN you are at a reasonable level of playing.
