Have you ever abused your position?

And details.

It doesnt matter whether your a director of a company or a minimum wage employee, theres always been an opportunity to "take advantage" of your position.

Have you ever done it and details.

Heres mine.

Im was a sysadmin for a company working in manchester. Anyhow, I was desperately looking for jobs, because I hated this place. The management were a bunch of major ass w4nkers.

Anyhow, there had been some change around and everyone was offered new contracts with new terms. My previous contract stated either me or the company had to give 1 weeks notice for termination of employment.

Now this isnt very securing. So the amended contracts which were handed to several staff contained the amendments of 30 days required.

Stupidly we signed them, expecting a copy back the next day or so.

Time passed and nothing was said.

Anyhow something serious came up regarding pay or somert and I asked the director for a copy of my contract. To check dates for pay etc.

Anyhow as I was reading through the contract I noticed the departing terms still read 1 week. I was 100% I signed a version stating 1 month.

Anyhow, I queried it with the director and he told me that the 1month wasnt offered to me. A contract was never drawn up and I never signed anything. Which I knew was bullshit.

So sure enough one quiet afternoon and few mouseclicks and password later, I was busily browsing away on his machine. Sure enough I found the contract, albeit it wasnt a signed version, but it had my name on it, to prove that they did indeed offer me 1 months departing terms.

Anyhow, the end story was I ended up leaving, but I never told the company about my discovery, so I was able to terminate on the previous terms of 1 week notice.

The only 'Abuse' I can think of is when I was doing file work in my Trust Admin position with the Royal Bank of Canada.

The warehouse had a phone.

I had a list of PC parts for LAN.

List, Phone, Lan, List, Phone, Lan....

Well you can imagine (for those with less imagination just say I spent many Hours negiotiating over the phone ;P)

Working as a computer operator running 24 hour shifts has some advantages. Typically, because you and your collegues are there ALL the time, your company gets you to monitor EVERY computer/network/security system that they run. This means that if anything goes wrong with a system you have the power to call up the person who looks after a particular system at any time - day or night.

At my last company (Penno keep quiet about this please!) there were several people who were quite adept at p***ing me about during the day. So, those same people got calls at around 3am/4am in the morning on a Sunday morning (after a good skinfull the night before) telling them that their system was playing up/down/about to go down and they needed to look at the problem NOW!.

There was mention in a different thread that you should never upset your sys admin - well I say, never upset your computer operators that monitor all your systems 'coz we can screw you just as much as your sys admins can(especially when your sys admins start offloading their work onto you 'because you're there all the time')

never really done a great deal. blank cds and memory cards tea leafed. thats about it. used to munch a lot of food at sainsburys but didnt matter if you got caught, you just say a customer just asked you "what it was like" and you felt you needed to know for next time. just widen the variety and you can keep getting away with that. (ie dont keep getting caught munching the same box of strawberries).

took a nice little keyboard from boxclever once. just slapped it in my rucksack. was pretty tidy. anything i nick from fuji i genereally take it back cos ill use it as much there as at home and i know i can take it again at any time. tbhits not stealing cos anything i nick i a) learn more about it which means i can give better service to customers and b) never really need it and just bring it back

i nicked a bunch of expensive food from holland and barrett, but not much, and i was too scared to do anything when i worked at focus. Seeing as my mum was involved int he first bar i worked at i couldn't really do anything under hand, and i got my latest bar job through friends, and dont have much power there anyway :/

never really had a job with much power and the opportunity to abuse them, so i look forward to my future opportunities and hope i'm savvy enough to get away with something really good

hehe

I just tended to use the bandwidth to download games updates ... not strictly abuse - but hey .. what are you going to do when you are on a 56k connection at home.

Plus helped myself to some blank cd-r's and got first picks on all the **cough** skipped **cough** equipment ...

Other than that ... just reading peoples emails (purely from the point of view of checking for potentially libelous text or images of an adult nature which might offend (found some acutally)

All good clean abuse though !
