New PC Build Advice

Hi

One of Jessica's friends is wanting a new PC for gaming.

He hasn't got anything, so we need to start from scratch

Hes not expecting Hi-Res gaming, he just wants to be able to join us lot for theme nights.

So, TF2, Killing Floor, CS:GO etc

Spend budget is 400

Hes going to need everything

PC, Case, CPU, Motherboard, RAM, H/D, DVD, Monitor

I should be able to sort him out with a spare OS I have here.

I will need a bit of help with CPU ideas and Graphics cards (will post some in a sec)

Re: New PC Build Advice

For gaming mate I would not go for less than a quad core / dual core with HT.

If you use that and the onboard graphics it will be ****.

What screen will it hook up to?

Re: New PC Build Advice

Right done a quick spec, its still a APU but its a quad core CPU now with a much better onboard graphics, it will still be slow but turn the settings down and it will be ok, plus there is the option to add in a discrete card in the future.

Ask Scan to stick that on today only and it will be cheaper.

Re: New PC Build Advice

I would say so, a TB isn't that much these days, Steam + downloads ect

Besides, dropping it down to 500gb say wont make much difference, still not enough change for a good GPU.
The CPU selected is one of the top end ones already.

You can get 2 TB for a little over 60 these days. Speed and access shouldn't be an issue at this spec.

Indeed, I could refine that spec a little more with more info from the lad buying, give me a shout if advice is required.

OK, just give Rasher a little time to pop into the cellar and ask him exactly what he wants

Re: New PC Build Advice

Plat, have a question for you

The last item on the list, is the AMD A10
from what i can see its a CPU, but it also seems to be pointing towards its a graphics card (which totally confused me)

Can you confirm what it is please

It's a Fusion APU (CPU with integrated GPU)

Re: New PC Build Advice

Its both mate, common thing now and thats the way the industry seems to be going.
With that CPU they wont need a graphics card, but can stick in a PCI-E one in the future if they need something faster.

Re: New PC Build Advice

AMD ones are not bad, the top one has a 7660 built in so good for low - mid end gaming at a resnoble resolution.
Intels are ok but not as good as AMD but they are catching up fast, the GT3 graphics in next years Haswell are supposed to be a very big leap and a potential game changer.
