Nexus 4 issue, It's dead I tell you, DEAD! :((( - Calling any Nexus or Android users(

So my Nexus 4, which I've had for just over a year now, decided to not charge after it's battery completely depleted last night.

Up to this point I had been using it without issue and I did plug it into mains immediately, just after it had 'powered off'.

I've left it plugged into mains all day and still nothing, I have tried 2 seperate USB cables into the main adapter and attempted to connect via my laptop too. I'm getting no LED light activity whatsoever and quite frankly I'm at my wits end.

I've been looking about and people have mentioned something called the Android Debug Bridge, does anyone have any experience using this? I've also read that my usb connection on my phone could be fubar but a wireless charger could do the trick....?

Any ideas, suggestions, hand jobs more than welcome.

Have you tried using someone's battery in the phone? Could be the battery if nothing else is connecting to it.

Re: Nexus 4 issue, It's dead I tell you, DEAD! :((( - Calling any Nexus or Android us

This is the problem with the Nexus 4. Lovely phone, Josh has one, but I'd never buy a phone I couldn't change the battery on.
A Lithium Ion battery has a life of only around 300 charges, possibly up to 400 if you're scrupulous about charging it correctly and recalibrating it regularly. So your battery is only going to last about a year and a half. If you can't change the battery then it's bye bye phone time. Quite possibly 6 or 8 months before your 2 year contract is up.

That makes sense Betty, sounds like the battery has given up the ghost, I'm thinking of a Nokia Lumia next....my brother raves about his, and although perhaps partially blinded by the fact he worked for MS for 10 years I do respect his opinion on tech, apart from that there's nothing really catching my eye on the market at the moment..

I have had that a few times, usually just leaving it on charge for a while worked.

You should be able to pick up a new battery of ebay or from a phone repair shop for it, they can fit it or you can do it if you are confident.

Yeah, it shouldn't be beyond the capabilities of a man such as yourself to fix it.
Here's a video tutorial.

Re: Nexus 4 issue, It's dead I tell you, DEAD! :((( - Calling any Nexus or Android us

The Android Debug Bridge (or ADB) is for developers that are creating apps on the phone and acts as a two way communication between the device and the machine you're developing on.

For example, I use it as a way to see what's going on in the mobile browser using the debugging tools on the desktop.

There are other uses for this bridge, but if it is the battery in the device that's completely gone, then I don't see ADB doing you much help, since you'd need to enable it on the phone's OS first...

The device should still be drawing power from the USB port enough to show the battery charging indicators even if the battery isn't charging, so it does sound more like there's a problem with your USB port rather than the battery.

Pop into a shop that sell mobile accesories and see if you can use one of their Qi chargers to at least rule it out.
