Bank holiday pay

Was thinking about this, at the place that I work I am basically there every day (tiring, but MONEY!!! being a student (sort of) I can run on red bull and need the dosh...) and it's still the same rate of pay the whole time. Someone said that you should be paid extra for sundays and bank holidays, and seeing as I worked yesterday, today, and will be working tomorrow and Monday I thought I'd see how things work wih others that are paid hourly.

Also, I am the Sunday and Wednesday manager (not bad for a gap year job, being 19 and all!), surely I should get extra for that?

Depends on your contract tbh, check what you've signed.

It does depend on your contract, but its pretty unusal to not offer an uplift for the bank holidays.. It common to have no Sunday uplift nowdays...

From the employment solicitors webby :

"Such workers can only give up their right not to work on Sundays only by giving their employer a signed and dated written "opting in notice", stating that they wish to work on Sunday or that they do not object to working on Sundays."

Write this in your contract, game over I'm afraid.

I don't mind working Sundays or Bank holidays, I was just wondering how others were paid for it thats all. The guys I work for are quite relaxed about it anyway, more or less any day I ask for off they are happy to do it, cos I'm their main employee and they want to keep me as much as possible!
