Re: Major Problem for this coming LAN (LAN #85)
Hi Rash:
So you are aware, since we come pretty regularly.
Myself and Tipper won't be attending this one (Just got off the phone with him).
Sorry to hear about the fire
Hope you get it all sorted mate - i think everyone would understand if you needed to cancel under the circumstances.

Re: Major Problem for this coming LAN (LAN #85)
Rash,
I wish there was something I could do, I know how long it took to build all that equipment up and how long it'll take to replace. Let me knw if there is anything I can do, sadly the only things I have are not worth the shipping cost to send over the pond (handful of UK power cables).

Re: Major Problem for this coming LAN (LAN #85)
I think iirc Rasher said Gbics are the thing that is needed most in terms of networking kit.

Re: Major Problem for this coming LAN (LAN #85)
I cant come, but would like to help out in some way.
I know some people may find it cheeky, but if its setup, I would be willing to donate some money towards things getting bought. We all use the equipment when we attend LANS anyway, so I personally wouldn't have a problem sending some cash over.
Also, i think its obvious from everyone posting that its the small minority that have problems with the LANs, I personally love them and I am gutted I can't make it this time around

I can bring CAT5 (about 4x 5m) and if needs be I can stick a CPU and blank drive into my old media PC and bring that for use as a server?

This is very much appreciated, and I obviously can't answer on behalf of Rasher, but for this LAN the loanage should get us by. There was a meeting at 7pm last night and alot of work done afterwards which certainly made this xmas LAN look doable. But the final word goes to the big man and the decision should come by 5pm tonight. Fingers crossed !!
And Disturbed got repped

Re: Major Problem for this coming LAN (LAN #85)
So far I have found 2x20m (I think they are 20m but do not have a tape measure to hand.), a bunch of 10m and about 20-30+x5m cat5 cables.

Re: Major Problem for this coming LAN (LAN #85)
This is obviously a huge blow to Rasher and family, can't believe this has happened. I don't have much in terms of bits and bobs that could be used for equipment etc, I do think there's a pair of cat-5 crimpers here in the office but the trimming blade is a bit buggered but I can happily donate them if required.
Also anything else AFA or myself can do then please let us know.

Cheers Benneb, Just hold fire as, like I said, there was a lot of work done after the meeting and cable was ordered to make up some of the longer cables required.
I'm sure Rash will be updating within the next few hours. No one will be more gutted than me if this does get canned - I do have around 70 GO LANs under my belt to prove my addiction
