Trolling Ginge

Welcome one and all.

Get comfortable and let me tell you a little story……

On the 19th of October a plan was hatched which caused to some the best night of Friday LOLS we have ever witnessed.

Ginger or TheGingerKid is a member of the GameGrin forums but had started his final year of university. Within this time he has got about creating his own review team for his final project. After a little bit of scouting we found that the company name he was using was called byte control. A little bit more scouting made me realise that he hadn’t registered the domain name for his website.

So I took the liberty of registering it. After a week or so of holding on to the domain name and making sure Ginger hadn’t twigged that I had registered the plan was about to go into action.

It all started at 7pm on the 19th. The plan started just as a simple re-direct to IGN’s website (we are sorry, please don’t sue us) and a quick message to Ginger about the whole thing on twitter.

It blew up quickly, quicker than I had thought it would… A few minutes of confusion happened as the domain name went from its IGN roots to to the classic
. After Ginger was still not getting this was all a pun at his expense we decided to try our luck a little more.

After composing ourselves and adding a account we got our first official enquiry email from Ginger about the whole situation.

Just interested in what this site will become!

Once we had decided to pick ourselves up off the floor. We picked up a free Wordpress site and got our “professional” Graphic designers to mock us up a logo which we could use. After a little bit of phreaking against Ginger once more we had finally convinced him that IGN had setup a new review website under the name of ByteControl.

Which Basically meant to people who aren’t following that IGN had stolen Gingers Idea.

Another email was sent to Ginger to let him know that we owned the Copyright of Bytecontrol and we would like it if he doesn’t bother us anymore.

Then in the quickest sellout move we have seen he asked if he could join the team.

Hi guys,

Sorry to seem a little bitter over on your new site, you can delete the comments if you feel it appropriate.

You can understand that I would be feeling this way as I was mocking up designs for a logo, content etc. I have a Facebook page created, a Twitter page, sub-Reddit, the lot. I will take down/change what I can for now.

This may sound slightly absurd but I would love to be part of Byte Control, as a writer, reviewer etc. Seems like fate that this has come about! Look forward to hearing from you soon.

So after all this laughter it was time to call this a night and let our “friend” off the hook and tell him all about the night we had.

However we weren’t going to do this without a little bit more fun.

We took it upon ourselves to make it look like Dawson was a hacker and apparently had managed to hack into our really “super secure” Wordpress website. Once he had done this he gave the passwords to Ginger. Ginger then decided that it would be amazing if he got to work to destroy all of our hard work. To his credit he did manage to change the background colour and some of our text.

We still loved him though so we tried to drop some hints along the way.

We asked to look at some of the alt tags on the images which basically said it was a setup.

It wasn’t until Kris decided to ring him with all of us in the background on Skype and a little more prompting from Kris that the penny finally dropped!

The Jig was up and it all came crashing down around Ginger.

A massive thank you to anyone who was involved in the night and the people that keep looking at this thread, bumping it and adding to it!

People involved.

Kris, Sarah, Wedgeh, Dawson and Plat.

Without you lot it wouldn’t have been half as fun!

Massive thanks to Ginger for being a Potato, a good sport and not blocking us all as soon as he found out.

Happy Ending - Just to let you all know the Domain name was forwarded to Ginger so he could use it in his final project which I assume was a success as he passed his University course. The Domain is not back under my control and will remain linked to this thread until IGN buy it off me…

If anyone else has some of the missing images for this night as we seem to be down a few. Please contact me or Dawson and we will get this updated.
