Games being released too early?

Would love to know some other examples of this...
Following the Ubisoft issues after AC launched it got me thinking if games are released to early in the development cycle. I started to think the number of times I've bought a game brand new and the first thing you have to do is install a day one patch!
Any experiences you've had with this?

Rome 2 Total War is a quintessential example. After ELEVEN patches and a new edition (released last month) the game is finally playable. Just in time for them to announce a new game... Sigh.
