What's the point of SSL Enabled on front page of websites?

I was browsing some websites recently and noticed that some websites have an SSL Certificate on the front page of the website and some don't (but they have SSL enabled on other parts of the website).

What is the reason for this? Why would you want to secure the front page of the website if it doesn't deal with any sensitive information? Is it just a ploy to make customers think that the website is secure?

Would like to know what you guys think about this.
