New GPU and sound problems

OK so into my new rig goes a GTX670 (MSI) and when it runs at full pelt in BF3 i get sound interference on my sound the noise changes pitch inline with graphical changes in game. Im on the on board sound and have not tried using my soundcard to see if it is different yet.

I have 2600k I7 (stock) asus Mobo, 16 gig ram and the only bit left from my old rig my tagan 580w power supply(i suspect this may be the problem).

should i get a new PSU?

Re: New GPU and sound problems

Interference perhaps, 580w should be enough though, got the full model number?

Re: New GPU and sound problems

No real need for a 850 unless you want to go SLI, I never understand why people go for the higher rated ones unless its for efficiency (gold+ PSU's generally tend to be 700w+), Get a good 600w + unit and you will be fine.

Re: New GPU and sound problems

If you board has more than 1 PCI-e x16 slot you can try moving the graphics card to the other one. Depending on how close it is to the onboard sound chip it might cause less inteference.
The same thing happens to me whenever I use it for folding as my graphics card is positioned next to my sound card.
